Mucky Nutz Wins a King’s Award for Enterprise Innovation

We’re incredibly proud to announce that Mucky Nutz has received a King’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation.

For a small independent business based in Cornwall, this is a massive honour.

The King’s Awards for Enterprise are the most prestigious business awards in the UK, recognising outstanding achievement in areas including Innovation, International Trade, Sustainable Development and Promoting Opportunity. To be recognised in the Innovation category is something we are hugely proud of.

This award recognises the thinking behind our Rear MugGuard: a product designed to solve a real problem for riders, and one that sums up exactly what Mucky Nutz is all about: practical ideas, proper function and no-faff product design.

Why we received the award

The Rear MugGuard was developed to tackle a problem many riders know well.

Traditional rear mudguards often force a compromise. Go short and you lose protection. Go long and fit, clearance and compatibility can become a headache, especially on modern full-suspension bikes. Plenty of designs also do very little to protect key areas like the rear shock and linkage.

So we set out to do it differently.

The Rear MugGuard was designed as a dual-mode adjustable rear mudguard, allowing riders to switch between short and long configurations without tools. It also features angle and clearance adjustment, helping it work across a wide range of bikes and wheel sizes, while protecting the rider and important suspension components too.

That is the kind of innovation that matters to us. Not change for the sake of it. Not gimmicks. Just a genuinely useful product that solves a real-world problem in a better way.

We’re also proud that it reflects wider values that matter to us as a business. The Rear MugGuard is made locally from recycled plastic and supplied in packaging made from recycled bottles. For us, innovation has never been about doing something new just for the sake of it. It is about making something better, more useful and more thoughtfully made.

Why this means so much

This award means a lot to us, not just because of what it recognises, but because of what it has taken to get here.

Like many small independent businesses, we have had to keep moving through years of challenge and uncertainty. That has made moments like this feel even more meaningful.

We have kept backing our ideas, kept developing products, kept solving problems and kept pushing forward. That is a big part of why this award matters so much.

It feels like recognition not just of one product, but of the work, persistence and belief behind it. The long days. The head-scratching. The testing, refining and trying again. The refusal to settle for “that’ll do”.

For a small team like ours, that means a great deal.

Receiving a King’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation is a rare and special honour, and we are proud to mark it properly.

But it is not a finish line.

If anything, it pushes us on. It gives us even more motivation to keep innovating, keep improving and keep creating practical products for riders who want kit that works properly, fits properly and stands up to proper riding conditions.

We’re hugely proud of this recognition, proud of what the Rear MugGuard represents, and proud of everyone who has been part of the journey so far.

Now it’s about carrying that momentum into what comes next, and making sure the next bit of kit earns its place.
