Muckin' About

Origins

Mucky Nutz started the way all the best stories do - in a shed, with a bit of tinkering, a lot of curiosity, and a fair amount of swearing.

Back in 2009, Shane began making lightweight bike parts in his garden shed in Sheffield, all while keeping an eye on his young daughters tearing about the place. The first creations? Bottle-top end plugs and lightweight brake discs. They were made locally, thrown on eBay… and, to his surprise, they actually sold. A website followed, and with it came the name: Mucky Nutz.

The Distruptor

The real breakthrough came later that year with the Bender Fender - the first product of its kind: small, lightweight, discreet, and surprisingly effective at keeping riders’ faces and forks clean. It disrupted the mudguard market almost overnight, winning over riders, bike forums, and the media.

Of course, success brings imitators. Rather than waste time in endless legal battles, Shane took it as a backhanded compliment - and a nudge to double down, expand the range, and build Mucky Nutz into something bigger.

On The Move

In true Mucky Nutz style, Shane didn’t just grow the business - he packed it up and moved it 300 miles south to Cornwall. For a while, the company ran out of a double garage (because honestly, who needs space for cars?) before settling into its own premises just a stone’s throw from the Cornish coast and right on the local cycle path.

Today, we’re proud to be in our new, larger premises in Bude, with more space, more storage, and even more room to dream up fresh ideas. We design, test, and manufacture all our products here in the UK, with much of it made in the South West. Keeping things local lets us stay nimble, keep a close eye on quality, and reduce our environmental footprint.

Part of the community

Mucky Nutz is about more than just mudguards - it’s about the people who use them. We’re lucky to be part of an amazing outdoor community, from riders and runners to weekend warriors, local shops, and event crews. We love supporting local initiatives, collaborating with trailblazing brands, and swapping stories with fans near and far.

Built for the Long Haul

From day one, our mission has been simple: create smart, durable gear that just works. No gimmicks, no landfill-fodder - just well-designed products that help you get outside and stay there, rain or shine.

What's next?

We’ve expanded our space and our ambitions - and we can’t wait to keep pushing forward. Stay tuned for new products, exciting collaborations, and plenty of behind-the-scenes action on our social channels.
